Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions page. Here, we address the most common inquiries regarding call recording technology, legal compliance in the European Union, and the specific capabilities of the hardware we provide at CallRec.eu.
Legal & Compliance
Is call recording legal in the European Union?
Yes, call recording is legal in the EU, provided it complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This typically requires having a lawful basis, such as the explicit consent of the participants or a documented “legitimate interest” (e.g., for business training or evidence of a transaction). Always ensure you understand your local national laws, as some countries may have additional specific requirements.
Does GDPR require me to play a notification to the other party?
GDPR requires transparency. While it doesn’t strictly mandate an automated voice message, you must ensure that callers are aware the call is being recorded and for what purpose. This is often handled by a verbal notification at the beginning of the conversation or through terms of service for business clients. The dialer included in phones we sell DOES NOT play any notification during call or at the beginning of the conversation.
Xiaomi Dialer Features
Who has the rights for the Xiaomi Dialer?
CallRec.eu are not the Xiaomi Dialer creators, we sell smartphones with included phone app. All rights belongs to Xiaomi Inc.
Will the person I am talking to hear a recording announcement?
No. The phones sold by CallRec.eu use the native Xiaomi Dialer. Unlike the standard Google Dialer, Xiaomi Dialer records calls silently without any automated voice announcements (“This call is now being recorded”). This allows for a more natural and professional conversation.
Why is a native dialer better than a recording app from the Play Store?
Modern Android versions have strict security restrictions that prevent most third-party apps from accessing call audio clearly (often resulting in silent or one-sided recordings). The Xiaomi Dialer is integrated into the system, providing high-quality, two-way audio capture that is stable and reliable. The dialer is included in Xiaomi, Redmi Note or POCO brands.
Usage & Storage
Can I set the phone to record calls automatically?
Yes. Within the Xiaomi Dialer settings, you can enable Auto-record calls. You have the option to record all calls, calls from unknown numbers, or only calls from a custom list of specific contacts.
Where are the recorded files saved?
Recordings are stored locally on your device’s internal memory. You can access them directly through the Call History by tapping a specific call, or via the built-in Recorder app under the “Call Recordings” tab. They are saved in high-quality audio formats, making them easy to share or archive. You can also sign in to Xiaomi Mi Cloud and view recordings via your Browser – calls are synced to cloud along with recordings.
Is my data secure?
Since the recording is native to the device, your audio files stay on your phone. Unlike many third-party apps, your conversations are not sent to external servers for processing. We recommend using device encryption and a strong passcode to further protect your data.
